Discussion: A high risk for widespread severe and destructive weather is expected today, continuing through the evening. Very strong wind gusts, large hail, and large and potentially destructive tornadoes are expected today. The threat will begin in eastern LA and spread through MS and AL through the afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms that are ongoing currently pose a severe risk, but the more concerning thunderstorms are the ones expected to form early afternoon. Thunderstorms forming late this morning will largely be discrete supercells, posing the highest tornado risk of the day. Later in the afternoon, these thunderstorms will begin to form a squall line, posing primarily a straight-line wind threat with embedded tornadoes possible. The environment today has meteorological characteristics that are on the high end of the majority of parameters, including moisture, instability, and wind shear.</pre>
